| Who's Who: How Well Do You
Know Your Fellow Campers?
AnneTatarsky has been one of our
faithful campers since last July. She first joined
our camp with five of her LoDo's friends. Together
they brought a lot of energy and always entertaining
work stories. Anne stuck with it, even riding her
bike on some cold winter mornings and she has reaped the
benefits of increased strength and loss of inches. Unfortunately, we have to
say good-bye to Anne as she heads off to make a
bigger difference in the world.
In just a couple of weeks Anne will join the Peace
Corps as an Environmental Awareness Promoter in the
Dominican Republic. She will be helping students
and teachers to incorporate environmental awareness into
the curriculum and working with communities on Eco
tourism.
So what else didn't you know about
Anne?
What is your idea of perfect
happiness?
Learning something new
every day makes me happy. Knowing that I can always be a
better person. Also, a long hike in the mountains
on a warm summer day makes me really happy.
What living person
do you most admire? I admire many
people close to me. Especially one close friend who
has overcome many personal and extremely difficult
challenges, and through this has taught me so much about
being positive, to respect myself, and to continuously
look for growth in ay
situation.
What is your
greatest extravagance? I don't really
have one, but I own a LOT of shoes.
Who is your
favorite professional sports team? I
played Lacrosse for many years and really like watching
the Mammoth.
What is your
favorite magazine? I don't really read
magazines, but My favorite gossip site online
is PerezHilton.com. Occasionally
I'll pick up an outdoor/adventure mag.
What is your favorite
book? I loved the Kite
Runner and recommend it to everyone.
Who are your heroes in real life?
I think that there are many people who I
would consider personal heroes to me. But I saw Desmond
Tutu speak at a function, and that man has done amazing
things!
What is one
thing other campers would be surprised to find out about
you? I like to
knit. I am also an average oil painter... But I
love it!
What is your
greatest fear? Right
now... Tarantulas. And where I'm going... I hear
there are lots of them.
What is your
most visited Denver night spot? I'm a big fan of happy hour. Aqua
is great for food. also Mahloney's, and
the Giggling Grizzly.
When do you feel
healthiest? When I
make it to boot camp all 5 days. I need a good
work out routine to keep me feeling positive and
healthy.
What is your
favorite Altitude workout? The weight push of course... who
doesn't LOVE that one. Someone once told me that
the workout we hate the most, tend to be the ones we
need. I also really LOVE tuck jumps!
What is your
favorite cocktail? I usually drink an extra
dirty vodka martini up with olives. but
my fav is the Orange slice martini from
the Keg. It's AWESOME!
What is your
motto? Life is an adventure...always have a
positive attitude and do it with a
smile!
And we will miss your smile and your no quit,
never give up, positive
attitude. |

Tips from Tiffinie
Calorie Crunchers
Eliminate the
soda:
A 12oz.
soda contains as much as 9 teaspoons of sugar. Although
diet sodas may substitute artificial sweeteners, many of these
ingredients pose other health risks. Try seltzer or
mineral water instead.
Swap cheese sauce for sprinkles:
Cheese sauce can add 50-90 calories per 1/2 cup
serving. Substitute grated parmesan for reduced calorie,
fat, and sodium content.
Season your own tomatoes:
Processed pasta sauces often have 3-4 times
the calories of a can of diced or pureed tomatoes. In
addition, processed sauces also have sugar and oil
added. For a healthier alternative add your own spices
to fresh or canned tomatoes.
Better
baking:
When baking substitute applesauce for
oil. You can still enjoy a sweet treat but with
significantly fewer calories and fat. The applesauce
also maintains the moisture and won't impact the
flavor.
Control your
carbs:
Have an open face sandwich and eliminate the
second slice of bread. The proper serving size for
pasta, rice and potatoes is the size of a tennis ball.
