| Who's Who: How Well Do You
Know Your Fellow Campers?
Jim Rice joined Altitude
this fall as
one of our morning campers. Jim not only made it
to camp most mornings, he rode his bike each day.
Keep in mind this was our coldest camp of the
year. Jim's hard work paid off as he took to the
slopes this year minus the burn and on top of his
game. Another neighborhood merchant, if you
don't already know him you will definitely want to read
on...
What is your idea of perfect
happiness? Every time I
think I know the answer to this question, the answer
changes.
What trait do you most deplore in
others? Dishonesty.
What is
your favorite cocktail? When I'm not
drinking wine, its usually a vodka
soda.
Who is your favorite
professional sports team? I'm from
Illinois. So, I have to go with the Chicago Cubs.
When do you feel healthiest?
I feel healthiest when I combine healthy eating
along with a good workout regiment. However,
it seems like it is usually one or the other.
What is your
favorite Altitude workout? I like any of the
team competition work outs. The whole competition
thing definitely gets me going.
What is your
motto? The only shot you miss 100% of the
time is the shot you don't
take.
What is one thing other campers
would be surprised to find out about you?
I own
a wine store in LoDo!
Yes! Shameless
self-promotion!
*Editor's note - Finally, a classy and
reasonably priced wine & spirits store that is
easily accesible in LoDo. Check them
out! |

Tips
from Tiffinie
Fitness Myths
Myth #1
Crunches will help you lose belly fat:
You can't
pick and choose areas where you'd like to burn fat. The
truth is, when we exercise, we metabolize fat from all
regions, not just the abdomen. In order to
right this myth, include a balanced diet and total body
exercise program that will diminish all fat stores
including the fat in the abdomen, helping us achieve those
flat abs.
Myth #2 Strength-training will
make women too muscular:
Most women's
bodies do not produce enough testosterone to produce bulky
muscles. Instead it is important, particularly as women
age, to use heavier weights and increase strength to prevent
osteoporosis.
Myth #3 The more reps the better:
300 crunches a day will
not produce fantastic results if your form is not
correct. Many people do not have correct form on a
crunch and waste the majority of effort. Also, depending
on the desired results weight lifted is more important
than reps. In all cases, quality over quantity.
Myth #4
Exercise turns fat into muscle:
Fat and muscle tissue are composed
of two entirely different types of cells. You may lose fat and
replace it with muscle, but the two never "convert" into
different forms. Muscle is more dense than fat.
therefore 1lb of muscle takes less space than 1lb of
fat. The reason why you may lose inches and not pounds
once you start your fitness routine and yet you are still much
healthier.
Myth #5 You
have to sweat to have a good workout:
Sweat is the body's method of
cooling itself and not necessarily an indication of
exertion. Each individual reacts differently to exercise
and fluid levels also play a part in sweating. Monitor
heartrate as a more accurate
indicator. |
If you keep doing things
the way you've always done them, you will keep getting the
same results you've always gotten.
