Who's Who:  How Well Do You Know Your Fellow Campers?

Tobin Bliss joined Altitude as a participant in our first Base Camp this past January.  It was hard to tell whether Tobin's commitment or comedy was most appreciated.  He captured the only perfect attendance award and kept everyone smiling the entire camp.  Fortunately, Tobin continued into our February Base Camp (along with many others) and took it to the next level with his fun competitive spirit.

Read on to learn a bit more about Tobin.  I'm sure you will smile once or twice.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Free Altitude Peak Fitness boot camps for life!

What is your greatest extravagance?
My new Vitamix blender. I was convinced of purchasing the industrial blender at an impromptu infomercial over several beers. It is amazing; I will never eat another solid meal again!

What trait do you most deplore in others?
Laziness--unless you have an excuse.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?Cleanliness. Sometimes it is ok to get dirty and not pick up after yourself.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I have tried to learn several musical instruments in my life to no avail. I would love to be able to play the piano, guitar, harmonica, and recorder.

What is one thing other campers would be surprised to find out about you?
I actually really enjoy working out even though I complain about it often. It keeps my head on straight.

What is your greatest fear?
Up-downs!  If you can avoid them in your life consider yourself lucky because they are a killer.

What is your favorite Altitude workout?
Bring a friend to boot camp day. It is the one day in camp that your friends can experience the muscle soreness that you constantly complained about after your first day of camp.

Spring into Shape

Below are some tips to maximize your workout while getting into shape for spring and summer.  Each of these will tips will increase the difficulty of various exercises.

Increase the distance to the floor:  Don't allow your range of motion to stop at the floor.  Instead, when doing lunges place your foot on a step or stability ball.  For push-ups elevate either your hands or feet.

Add a quarter:
From the starting position of a push-up, squat, or lunge lower yourself completely.  When returning to the start position only raise yourself a quarter of the way.  Lower yourself and return to the full starting position.

Mini Repetitions:
From the lowered position of a push-up, squat, lunge, or raised situp, complete several mini repetitions.  Each time you will only lower and raise your body about an inch.

Looking to tone that upper body and look great in your summer tank?
The push-up is the best all around upper body exercise.  It requires no equipment and works the chest, shoulder, tricep, and back.  Be sure to maintain a tight core to support the back and ensure proper form.   Move the hands wider for a deeper chest workout and bring the elbows in next to the sides to work the triceps.
